Delete your other thread. D:
(Also, Avast.)
EDIT:
Didn't see Avira as a choice. That. Avast is a little bitchy, and I don't like the GUI.

AVG: used to be good, but now sucks
Avast: Had to once use it for Vista 64bit. Feels slow when scanning, not responsive/nags alot when a virus is detected.
Avira: Currently the best free AV out there
I go for Avira
btw. the poll is screwed up

Avast kind of freaks out when it finds something suspicious. Oh, and when you're scanning, as kls85 said, the program hangs. Oh, and its skin looks like something a ten-year old would think is kickass (metallic-looking lameness).

Well I actually had Avast once and it was very satisfactory... of course
NOD32 is better if not the best... but I liked Avast I'd say go with it.

Out of the three, my vote goes to Avira. AVG just plain sucks with handling most viruses, and like others have stated, Avast's GUI isn't good, although it might perform similarly as Avira does in terms of detection rates.
You might want to give NOD32 4. It's currently in public beta, so it's free for use, until the license expires in 3 months.

Except MAYBE Nod32.
Depending if everyone was saying the truth on my AV thread...

Eh, I had Avira.. was very annoying and didn't like it much, I just downloaded NOD32 today. Seems pretty good and easily customizable.

Aa exactly what I was going to write.
BOth avast and avira are good, but avira is faster which make that the choise.
I use avira on all the computers I build and sell.

True, NOD32 has nothing to do with this discussion. All 3 AV mentions are categorize as "free" and NOD32 is not.
For paid AV:
According to reviews Symantec's Norton AV 2009 is pretty damn good.
Installation is custom written from the groud up and install in like 2 minutes or less.
Update has been change to "rapid-pulse" mode
It's got a cpu and memory meter to see how much resources the scanner is using.
But NOD32 is still better.
