I would recommend that you not get an OEM laptop (yes, people do make custom notebooks). What's your budget? Sites like CyberPowerPC let you choose the parts that go into the build and let you save a bit of cash over the large manufacturers.

I'd recommend one with Core 2 duo instead of pentium dual core since its much better.
The lower end core 2 duos are faster and more efficient than the top end pentium D's ( 3ghz++)

Pentium D =/= Pentium Dual Core
Here we go again! Pentium Dual Core is based off of the Core 2 micro-architecture, except with only 1MB of level 2 cache. Thus, slightly slower performance in games and programs that are designed to fit on a CPU's L2 cache to maximize performance.
Overall, the system's not bad for the price. I'd recommend a 7200RPM drive if it's in the price range. You might want to upgrade to a draft-n wireless card, but you could always do it later when the full 802.11n specifications come out (and better performance/more rewards come with that). If possible, look for a notebook with a low-end dedicated video card, like the 8400M GS.

I would customize this one with a better video card (and CPU if you want). Comes down to budget.

Sorry about that.
The ASUS has a better video card, but the CyberPowerPC one is cheaper, and it has a full BIOS.

You could get a P8600 and 320GB 7200rpm HDD for $933. Remember to go into Customize even if you don't want to change components for the free stuff.
