Quad core laptop's aren't very cheap yet.
Are you in America or what country.
What shops would you prefer.
What else would you do other than gaming? Video Encoding/Photoshoping/surfing web?

Breaking the ice here, I saw GTA4 for PC yesterday, and it required a 1.9GHz DUAL core and NVIDIA 7900 and 512MB of RAM as a MINIMUM.
I'll take a pic later today and upload. I'm not sure about the core frequenzy, but I'm sure that this laptop would be able to run it fairly smooth.

I have to agree, GTA 4 isn't that well coded. It's pretty CPU dependent, so you'll need a good all-around laptop. My current 8800GS can run it at medium textures, highest rendering level, 50 view distance, and everything else maxed out at 50FPS average on the in-game/official benchjoe (ah, the word filter). However, you'll need a graphics card with a lot of video RAM, that's my weak point, there's a bit of graphics glitching here and there because I'm 200MB short.
With any of the laptops I've seen at the price point, you'd probably be able to get past low textures and surpass the console quality, and maybe medium textures. Rendering and detail distance did not affect my performance much, considering I could already run the game at 50FPS, so you'd probably be able to max that out to. I'm not sure how big of an effect the resolution has on the game performance though, I'm running 1440x900, and it's smooth.

GTA 4 is just hideously CPU bound.
Keep in mind the systems it was designed for. A Quad core helps your FPS a huge amount.

THERE. PERFECT. |
Don't buy that one, its not good.
The 18" should be fine if its true that 8800GS works with medium (didn't think so).
The card that one is like 8800GS avg.

Your right, 9800M GS is much better, tho I recommend to get GT instead, but they costs alot.
