Now, i know alot of REAL hackers(AKA - Programmers) think this:

It depends on what you need done and what operating system you use.

But i'm mainly asking this, what is your MAIN luanage that you use.

And what do you use it for.

Me, i don't really know many launages you know, i know launages that arnt honestly program making, used for other things.
But i'm putting my mind to learning C++, anyone know a good compiler?
The Microsoft visual C++ i'm looking at, but i havint heard great things about it, what you guys use?

You'd probably want to put this in General Programming.
Microsoft Visual C++ Express should be fine, and it comes with the Express MSDN library (full is available online through the program and the website). However if you want a lightweight alternative, there's always Bloodshed dev C++ or a Borland command-line compiler here. If you want a separate program to edit source files for any reason, use Notepad++ (selecting C++ as a language).
C++ isn't a bad place to start out, but make sure you have a good method to learn.

Thanks, ill put that pointer in next time i make a topic!
I know the basic concepts of programming, ive learned a few other launages which i wont even bother mentioning, those consisted of a little C++, JAVA, C#(MIXED).
Anyway, thanks, its just the IDE Double :: like Console::Beep(), it's annoying, as its funny becuase -

There "How do i" it comes with(Love it, its so excellent)
But, i came to one point and it said "This assumes you know basic C++, we suggest you go to blablabla"
but where they suggest you too too learn, is actually for the old:
cout
cin << >>
Etc.

So i'm kind of stuck there, anyone got a suggestion of a free e-book, or a great online resource.

Have a nice sleep Very Happy
I'm lucky i ain't a tottaly nooby at this, expecting it to be instant.
C++ is my choice since its so powerful, and capable of allot, not to mention once you learn it, it will be a lot easier to learn C# and Java etc, because they C++ are there parents.

I am now stuck with VB6 which is a good start-off, but after you should go to Flash or C++ for better programming.

C is the best, C++ is a close second...

Flash is not a good programming language if you want to be taken seriously. Same goes with VB and maybe other .net languages.

If you plan to work for a big organization/company in general i suggest you learn C, than maybe C++. Trying learning a plethora of languages.

C
C++
Python
Perl
eC
Delphi

Do not learn
Visual Basic
Anything to do with Visual Basic

Companies will laugh at you with that on your resume(`)

Pff, ive seen visual basic, ive looked at it its piss easy and isnt capable of anything.
C is not object oriented though, so learning that will make it more difficult to learn C++?

Uh, no. Unless your job is to write some shit that requires absurd amounts of speed, or anything low level, you're probably not going to be using C / C++.

VB.NET / C# are widely used, time is money.

If you plan on developing for Windows, chances are that you're going to need to use the Win32 API directly eventually. C / C++ will probably be better at getting you off with a better understanding, but pick whatever you want.

C++ Is the gateway to learning each launage faster, as its the parent, most of them anyway.
C# is easier to learn if you know C++, same with Java.

you shouldn't make assumptions with vb(and vb.net), it just proves you're ignorant.

that doesn't mean cpp is easy to learn though, and it doesn't mean that you'd be able to remember the syntaxes. it all depends on what you want to do, and i prefer c# for what i like to do.

and change your fucking avatar, it's stupid. have to block sites because a retard uses a flashy avy. Evil or Very Mad

grr, alright i'll delete my image, just wanted to see if it would irritate someone.
And ive looked at .net, ive read it and done a bit of code, its capable of something, but not as much as other codes.
And i know it doesn't make other launages easy to learn, it just is the parent and it makes it easier.
And the point of this topic is to get everyones opinion, since everyone has a different one.
