|

My friend has a problem with his computer, and I can't seem to get him or be able to fix the problem.
Here is what he said:
1st Quote:
Quote: | I need some help w/ my other computer.. I downloaded Windows XP SP 3 Gold Cobra. I went through the process n all. And when I restarted it, it says the presetup.cmd and setup.org can't be found, so now I have nothing! HELP. Rite now I'm trying to send the whole setup to a disk [I read and that's what ppl said] but there's not enough space on the disk. But I'm only missing space by a little bit. Help please? |
Second Quote:
Quote: | when I turn the computer on, it says Windows Vista.I can't log on, XP was deleted from my computer! They say I can put the setup onto my comp tho. Which I'm trying to do. |
Third Quote:
Quote: | How can I do a disk repair?? When I turn the computer on, it says 'Restarting setup' and then a box comes up saying presetup and setup can't be found, then it turns off, turns back on and does the same thing, over and over. |
Help please

Started to look at what you wrote, but these things don't make much sense because you hardly gave detail to how the computer got to where it is.
Edit with the full story, or no one can help you..

Can't really piece anything together from that, if you talk to him, write what happened here.
Else, tell him to boot up from a linux live distro (Slax/Ubuntu), back up what he needs from XP (if anything) and reformat/reinstall Windows with a normal retail version of XP, making sure he has the drivers for the devices he needs.

If he can get to the point where the Windows logo show up, Then he can system restore. At the top right it should say something like Press F12 to go to settings. Press F12(or another number), and under the settings menu there should be a restore option somewhere.

Dude, I think he downloaded a fake version of Windows XP SP3 Gold Cobra that deleted presetup.cmd and setup.org a lot of other stuff including you Window XP.
Tell him to be careful next time, and bring his computer to a computer technician.

True, you should be careful and know what's in your OS disc, but there's no need for a technician.
