|
So I just realised that my tower is getting alarmingly hot - since it's summer.
I've tried opening windows and allowing wind to blow to try to prevent this build up of heat, but it still persists.
Subsequently I've decided to buy a fan. and since I've never before, I would like some help.
What type of fan should I buy and how would I go about installing it?

Do you mind telling how hot it gets?
Also we will need info about the case; What size fans, how many.

What size fan do you need? And the fans will either have a 3-pin connector that plugs into the motherboard, or a 4-pin connector that plugs into one of the molexes coming off the PSU.

Best fans to get is off of newegg.com. My pc only had a cpu fan so I got a northbridge chip set cooler and 3 fans.

Ok.
I don't know how to measure the temperature, so all I can say is that it gets to an uncomforably hot temperature.
The case is not custom, I bought it from dell and its called a "Dell Dimension".
I can't see my fans and I also don't know how many fans I have.
Is newegg an Australian company because I am aware that many people in this community are from America.

I belive they ship around the world on some products. You probly have 1 fac open the side of your computer what I'm guessing what you have is this big green plastic box that gose from your motherboard to your rear exahust outlet on your computer or one cpu fan.
The size of the fan will matter though so make sure to read carefully. Messure the place were you intend to stick the fan, I'm guessing the rear which is about 34 MM on mine.
I will look at newegg and give you weather or not they ship to Australia. Or atleast try to find out lol.
I checked they only ship to U.S and Puertorico. You may have to go threw dell for an aftermarket part.

It is a program to measure the temperatures in your case and your processor
If you look around your case (At the sides, rear, front) do you see any openings from around 12 or 8 cm ?

There's definately no openings, but if I wanted to open my tower, all I would do is take off the right wall (dunno if thats the right word).
The program says its 65 degrees, but I just turned my computer on so..
I'll get back to you in a bit.

Try buying Thermal Glue from a store like Circuit City or something. Un-screw your heat-sync and apply on your CPU. Not too much. I think that should help if it over heats.

You need to remove the old heatsink, rubbing alcohol works well for the purpose.

His heatsink will already have TIM applied, and he's far more likely to fuck up the application of the TIM as opposed to the manufacturer, so it'd be best not to mess with it.
