|
|
Well I have two partitions on my drive: C and D
I need to add more space to C because I have less than 2 GB free on it and can't install bigger files (since it has to go from C first to D)
Can I take space from D and add it to C? How? Will anything get messed up/deleted?
C drive has all the boot/system/etc stuff on it
I'm using Vista

Simply right click my computer and push manage.
Then on the left side bar select Disk management.
Then right click D: and either delete partition or shrink partition.
Then Right click C: and extend partition.

Hmm
I shrunk the D drive but I can't click on extend for the C drive (can for the D drive though)
I guess I have two different harddrives then and not partitions? Oops
It says they're all on Disk 0 though.... so i'm confused

if you shrunk the D drive C should have more space. you wouldnt need to change the C drive

/logic | Thats not true
You should then have C drive, D drive and free or unallocated space

The unallocated space shows up
Shrinking D didn't add anything to C

Vista's partition manager let you shrink and expand partitions, but you cannot combined partitions if they are created with different types.
e.g. You have a hd with 2 partitios a C and D
C is a primary device and D is a logical device.
The partition you shrink in D cannot be expanded to your C because it's using 2 different partitioning systems.
From the image below we can see this drive had 3 partitions, Drives G and J can be shrunk, expanded and combined because they're using the same partitioning system, while drive H cannot because it's using another partitioning system.

Forgot to mention, even if all partition have the same type of partitioning system. The unallocated space has to be next to the C:\ in order to expand.
When you shrink the D:\, the unallocated space goes to the right side of the disk instead of the left.
