Some notebook some with a switch that lets you enable or disable your wireless. Look at the entire rim of your notebook to see if there is one. On some models it's so small and blends in well with the shape of your laptop you won't even know it's there
If not, you'll most like have to either use Function keys on your keyboard to turn it on. To do this hold and press down the "Fn" key and press the designated key to enable your wireless.
And lastly if available, you can enable it through the bios. _________________

Some laptops (like mine) have a bug that causes the OS to say that the network switch is set to the off position when it isn't. Look up the manual to your laptop - you can usually get a PDF of it off your manufacturer's support site - and find the key combination for enable/disable wireless. Mine is Fn+F2, but the F2 button doesn't actually have any Fn label printed on it.
You can also try starting the laptop up with the WiFi switch set to the off position, then switching it to the on position after you've booted up. This sometimes triggers the Plug & Play manager to recognise the device.
