The Beta is coming this December, but that's not for the public. Once the public version arrives then I can't wait to try it out and hopefully like with what I did with Vista send in a bug I found and as a gift I get the full version.
If not then I'll probably wait for the feedback program and still get some free expensive gifts from Microsoft.
The RTM won't be out until 2010.

Meh, Windows Vista was meant to be an amazing release which I fail to see. Therefore, what more can we expect for the next Windows release?

It uses less memory... check out "minwin" if you want to learn more.

It better be compatible, with also fixing the little security holes in vista.
Also performance and graphics should come to a nice meet, vista takes up too much RAM.

Go read up on superfetch and educate yourself. It's by design.
Lots of things are getting tweaks in Windows 7. Boot time especially, number of processes running, prefetch, etc.
Also, DirectX 11. The API this time around is apparently fully multi-threaded.
I imagine it will bring some very sizable performance gains. For the most part it should be fairly similar to Vista, so I doubt we'll be going through the driver pants shitting fiesta again (outside of DX11 support)
