Would Vista be the culprit to my lag problems?

I am playing a Flyff Private server (Fly for Fame) and I always get lagged out within 10 minutes. Regular internet browsing is no problem, and neither is the regular flyff game.

I am thinking it is something that has to do with Vista's protection...

The problem: Connection issues with FlyforFame private server, not with regular game, and not with my ISP.

I'm playing FlyForFame right now, no problems running on XP.

What types of protection with Vista could basically tell my computer to give a very small connection to this game?

If you don't have SP1 installed, as well as being completely up to date, do so. There's been shitloads of fixes to the networking.

tracert the server, then the official one, compare.

Ping the game server, you could just have a high latency connection to their private server.

What is tracert, and I'm using an illegal copy of Vista Ultimate x86 and don't know if I can update without something bad happening.

Vista's graphics take like a whole GB of Ram to load the OS i think
i prefer xp altho im using vista.

but like srsly, use xp to play games
vista is non-compatible with some games,
and uses too much ram for graphics.
