Mainboard and motherboard are the same thing.

Depending on how severe the damage is, it could only take $5 (blown capacitors), or if the CPU, RAM, and GPU are damaged, it could take much more, a figure like the computer guy said.

We'll need more information than the brand. At the least, what is the computer name/model?

We need to know what parts you have (current motherboard, RAM, CPU, graphics card interface), and the severity of the damage. From there, we can choose the parts.

How far does the computer manage to boot up, if it can start at all?

What's the model of your computer?
Did you get any upgrades (factory installed or anything you installed)?
What are some signs that showed that the computer wasn't working right (odd noises for example)?

If you can't get the model or remember/find any information on the hardware it's using, take a few (more than 1) pictures of your computer.

Although I doubt this is the problem, check to make sure all the wires are inserted correctly.

There are still a few possible reasons why this could be happening, and you're probably right that the motherboard is damaged (since it won't initialize the BIOS). It's not a problem with your RAM. It could be your graphics card, but I've never run into a problem with graphics cards, so I wouldn't know how much information it would manage to display. It could be the CPU, but I still need more information.

When I had a broken graphics card it wouldn't display at all so really it could even be that, but who knows.

if that's the case, you can try putting your speakers up and trying to hear whether it boots into windows, and you just can't see it. also make sure that you're monitor's working on another computer or something.
