8gb RAM is WAAYY to much... just get 4gb... That is plenty! ( i think 4gb is even an overkill )
hdds is fine, CPU, i suggest the Q6600 for 195 USD
Id rather get the Antec 900 then 300 but w/e
PSU is good
GPU is high-end

I dont like quad core ;') My current build uses one and I dont think it's faster or more stable than a dual core cpu.
And i want 8 gb just to brag. They are not even expensive! soon u can buy computers with 4 gb ram in the stores. And I want a computer that wont be old tommorow if u know what i mean. Maby i should wait for ddr3 to get more stable. :/

There is a huge performance jump between the dual-core and a quad-core seeing as you can overclock the quad-core to 3.5GHz on air cooling...
and it cost less!

4800 series, absolutely no point to get Nvidia now other than to waste money like an idiot.
Q6600.
Pointlessly fancy motherboard, just get a 750i FTW

I agree, and I also agree there's no point in 8GB RAM. By the time you'd actually use even half of it, RAM will be MUCH cheaper. You're really only throwing money out the window, making your system less stable, worsening your timings, and limiting your overclocks by going with 4 sticks. I run 4GB of RAM and I multitask far more than you ever would, and I still don't use it all.
If you're talking about RAID 0, forget that now. You won't notice a difference and you're only wasting money, complicating things, doubling the chance of data loss, with no noticeable benefit. Single hard drives have high enough STR now that it's not really necessary.
Go with a Q6600, 4GB RAM, 4870, single hard drive.

If your going to get a 9800GTX go with a case that can support a E-ATX board. The antec 900 can "fit" a 9800GTX, but only if you do not install any hard drives in front of it.
If you do install a hard drive in the path of your graphic card then the hard drive will protrude about 1 inch out of its drive bay.

What? E-ATX boards just have more expansion slots (longer), and they're not much wider. I'm pretty sure most mid-tower cases should fit a 9800GTX and a few hard drives.
If you're going with NVIDIA, you'll want to get the 9800GTX+. If you want ATI, get the HD4850. You might want to try SLI or CrossFire on cheaper cards, like the 8800GT, it'll probably yield better performance at a lower price.
Get the Q6600.
For the motherboard, it depends on whether you're going to run SLI, CrossFire, or a single-card solution. For CrossFire and single-card solutions, get an Intel chipset motherboard (P35/P45 are pretty good). If you're going SLI, then you'll need an NVIDIA chipset motherboard (700-series).

E-ATX boards aren't longer nor do they have more expansion slots, they're just a decent bit wider. I have an E-ATX board right in front of me.

Case that will fit a E-ATX board will fit most of those long a$s cards with plenty of room for your hands to work comfortably.
As for the dual core there is a new one coming out called the E8600 with the new E0 stepping.
The E0 stepping will including the following:
-Power status indicator (PSI) is supported
-PECI implementation change
-XSAVE/XRSTOR instructions added: new ISA extension for save/restoring context of x87,SSE, and future processor state.
-ACNT2 feature added: Improve mechanism for determining processor utilization. To be used for more efficient P-State determination.
-Change package to Halide free package
| site wrote: | Besides the evident changes in SSpec and CPUID, they also claim that new processors use Halide free packaging and feature innovations reducing system power consumption during low activity. They support PSI signal that the CPU sends out in Deeper Sleep mode. This way the mainboard will be able to lower the power losses in the processor voltage regulator circuitry in idle mode. For example, some advanced mainboards supporting PSI will be able to switch the processor voltage regulator into single-phase mode in this case. For almost the same reason they are going to introduce ACNT2 support – a new software mechanism for determining the processor’s energy status.
New processor stepping will also bring in the long-awaited support modification for the PECI interface that provides access to DTS – digital thermal sensors built into the processor core. |
