How does RAID work?
Whats the difference between 1, 5, 10 RAID... etc?
Is it worth it?
Can it be used to have a backup of a hard drive... If A fails, B will be okay.?
Does it increase the speed by A LOT?

If I remember correctly, RAID works by "striping" (you can try Wikipedia for more answers).
RAID 0 is speed, RAID 1 is data backup, can't remember what RAID 5 is, RAID 10/1+0 is speed and data backup.
RAID 1 or RAID 10 can provide data backup, but you'll need a RAID controller (onboard or expansion card) and at least 2 hard drives.
RAID 0 or RAID 10 does increase speed, but I don't know by how much.

I don't get shit when it comes to RAID drives. Why bother with RAID? How would you go about configuring a RAID setup? What are the advantages/disadvantages?
I guess I could read about the subject a little more on Wikipedia, but personal experience is in my opinion the best way to learn. =3

Still don't know the point of RAIDing. You don't really need 1TB full of memory.

RAID is when you merge two or more drives into one to get higher reading speed & better overall preformance, tho if one of the drives 'dies' most information on the hdds could get lost.
RAID is also used to backup data 'n' stuff.
raid 0 :
By mergeing atleast two harddrives you get a hugh performance boost.
The hdds should be identical (same storage size & make)
raid 1:
This raid save the same stuff on all the hard drives which uses the raid. It does not boost the read preformence nor does it increase the actual as size of the hdds. For instance if you have 2x500gb samsung F1 spinpoint 7200rmp hdds, you will only be able to use 500 gb. This backup raid thing is soo boring, but very reliable as the probability of two harddrive crashes is equal to zero.
raid 2:
raid 3:
raid 4:
raid 5:
raid 6:
raid 0+1
raid 1+0
raid 5+0:
raid 5+1:

Is RAID worth loosing half your space to performance?

Sorry that is not true. read my text again or check the wiki link.
You never lose preformance. Just space and that is ONLY if u use some kind of retard raids.
I would recommend you to go for raid as it is much more faster than running one large disk.

I said you loose half your space to performace... meaning you loose space and gain performance....
and im pretty sure all of them make you loose raid, not just retard ones.

You don't lose half your space Read my wiki link.

You have 2x 1TB hard drives... They are mirrored drivers... So you really only have 1TB.

Yea but thats only if you originally had 2 TB. In your scenario you should have the second so you can use RAID.

So much misinformation here.
RAID0 will result in higher transfer rates, doubled storage as opposed to one drive, but if either drive fails all data is lost. Sustained transfer rates aren't really an issue with hard drives any more, it's more about seek times now and RAID can't help that, so RAID0 is not very beneficial anymore.
RAID1 does NOT backup data, it simply mirrors it onto the other drive and treats them as one. Usually performance is the same, however on higher end RAID cards with a good caching strategy, read performance can be greatly increased. All storage space is limited to the size of one drive, regardless of how many drives are in the array. Contrary to popular belief, RAID1 is NOT a backup strategy in any way, data can still be lost to accidental deletion, cache corruption due to a power outage, viruses, etc. RAID1 is meant to increase uptime because you can replace the failed drive while the system is still running. It doesn't do much to improve data safety because data loss is almost never due to hardware failure, but user error.
tl;dr? RAID has no place on the desktop PC.
