Now, I know it's highly unpracticed to build your own gaming laptop. I'm buying one soon, and I''m just wondering what brands you guys trust.

I'm probably going with : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8780198&type=product&id=1204332501169

But getting a CPU upgrade for sure. I'm also going to need better cooling, because I'll be playing Call of Duty 4 while botting WoW. 4 gigs of RAM should be enough, but I'm not sure what else I should upgrade on this baby.
Graphics maybe? 8800 GTS is nice, but I might want to upgrade to some of the 9 series maybe.

May I ask as to why a laptop? A desktop will fit your needs in a much cheaper way.

The Gateway looks good, but I prefer Toshiba. Not as strong, though.

I suggest going with a desktop as well. In the long run the laptop will just be more costly to upgrade and be more of a hassle and cost to fix if something goes wrong or breaks. A small issue can cost thousands, where as on a desktop a small issue can be fixed for under $100.

Think about it a bit more before you make your choice.

Yeah a Desktop will be easier to upgrade and cheaper. When a laptop gays out you usually have to get it professionally repaired so the warrenty isn't voided =|.

PS. I had to faggot your sig, it's horrid

Desktop FTW
I'd only recommend a laptop for people who NEVER play games and only surf da net and listen to music.

^^ I saw this one laptop that had a pretty awesome graphics card.

If he wanted to buy a desktop he probably would have said it. He has his reasons for picking this ( wants to take it on a Plane, car trip to the beach with the kids, etc).....

I also like the Toshiba laptops... and I dont really like BestBuy, since they use fakse advertising in their names...

Also, there is not a ton of room to put in a fan x.x Most of the time laptop CPUs and parts are made for heat.

The Dell XPS was built for gaming. If you have no budget go for an Alienware. However the price to performance ratio is horrible. The alienware will run for thousands but offer maybe 10% performance and the XPS will run at a lil over a thousand. Things you should look for if you want. 3 Ghz, 4 gigs of ram, 9800, or 8800.

The 9800m series is a power hungry bastard. They take 75 watts to run.
If you can get a 8800mGTX, it only takes 35Watts to use.

Alienware is really horrible, I suggest staying as far away from it as possible.

If you're looking for desktops, they're really cheap. Get one that has 6 GB of RAM, at least 2.8Ghz Quad Core, and Nvidia 9000 series or GTX series or ATI Radeon 4700 series. You can upgrade stuff if you want, but that build costs less than $1000.
