One day I was just surfing the web, and I turn my computer off, and I notice that it doesn't take me to my welcome screen anymore. It just goes to this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlock Computer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This computer is in use and has been locked

Only KIDZPC\Andrew or an administrator can unlock this computer

Username:

Pass:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's what I have tried:

1) Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on or off > Check both boxes (Use the welcome screen and use faster switching)

2)
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the Scrnsave.exe value under the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop
3. On the Edit menu, click String, type logon.scr, and then click OK.
4. Locate the ScreenSaverIsSecure value.
5. On the Edit menu, click String, type 0, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.

3) Virus scan via AVG FREE 8.0.

4) Properties > Screen Saver > Checked "On resume, display Welcome screen" > Power > Advanced Tab > Unchecked Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby

CEF SAVE ME!!!

EDIT: I don't think it's an issue about the screen saver because it occurs when I choose to login or log off.

You have a sign on password, correct? Try it. I'm on a network at work here, and I can lock my PC. I get the same message you do, but entering my login passwords unlocks my PC immediately.

Look around in workgroup/domain options as well if possible.

Thanks SF. I think I've come one step closer to solving this...but I'm still clueless.

Is this where I should be looking?

you do realise you can turn your screensaver off completely, instead of putting 9999 for the time.

Ha lol, that's why you should always make a password reset disk on an admin's account before they ever set a password.
I made a pass reset disk on my dad's user so just in case parental controls...

I don't think it's about my screen saver because it occurs when I switch users/log off.

I don't get my welcome screen when I log off. I get:
Quote:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlock Computer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This computer is in use and has been locked

Only KIDZPC\Andrew or an administrator can unlock this computer

Username:

Pass:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not when I go idle, it's when I log off or switch users. I DON'T WANT IT TO LOCK.

In the user account settings. Tick "Use Welcome screen", and also tick "Enable fast user switching."

You're welcome Razz
