I am getting a 9600 GT Video Card and i am wondering how much memory would be good enough for games like crysis
512? , or 256?

512mb.... I dont even think that card is good enough for crysis... Consider the 8800GT or 9800GT

The 9600GT can play Crysis on Medium settings at 1680x1050/1600x1200 with a good number of frames per second.
512MB, Crysis is a pretty intensive game. Also, 512MB would be the most you'd want on a graphics card with a 256-bit memory bus. More RAM than that would not be effective.

8800 GT is better(question mark, doesnt work on my keyboard)
any reason why it is better than the 9600GT

If you are comparing two graphics cards in two different series, you have to take the second number into account.
Since the 9600GT's second number is 6, that means its not great... but has newer technology
The 8800GT second number is 8, that means it has relatively new technology, and it is the best of its series.
TO LONG; DIDNT READ
The first number tells how new the technology is and the second tells how good it is!

Of course it is, if 8500GT can run it...
8800GT and 9600GT are not so different as people tend to think.
The only performance affecting difference between them is
their texture fill rate. 8800GT beats 9600GT at that.
That's it. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Crysis is going to be remembered as the most extensive game of our generation, needing like a gazillion of dollars of hardware to play decently. The 512 would be able to give you a decent play time with like 30 fps on a 1600/1200 with med settings?

Of course it would, as FSAA and resolution increase, so does the amount of required memory.
Framebuffers aren't free.
