if its running ok why reformat
there is no time limit on when you have to format, everyone has different things on their pc,
if you do lots of installing and uninstalling and your harddrive is fragmented and your pc runs slow then defragment,
if its hoplessly infected with viruses and maleware then ok do reformat
but if its working alright leave it alone,
or at least run the defragmentation tool by right clicking your harddrive icon and see if that speeds you up a bit,

Hmm, every now and then I reformat. Its a nice kind of feeling, afterword, having your computer be a clean slate. Just make sure you have al your programs listed with hopefully all your serial numbers, besides that your golden. I'd say do it!

i heard that ur computer is faster after a reformat, but im not sure thats technically true. isnt it because ur hardware is wearing out?
anywayz, since my HDD is 4 years old, i dont reformat that often.

Of course reformat makes everything faster. Its a clean installation of windows without all that background process running. I would highly recommend a few defrags but if that doesn't boost your speed then reformat. Just back up everything.

Lets put it this way, you have your computer, lets call it a plate. Now you want to add a program or so...lets say we call these your vegetables and possbly fruit. You decide to add some nice games, that can be your steak, and then you decide to add something like kazaa, or limewire (both of which I am certain is infested with spyware, ect.)... lets say these are your fecal matter you decided to put on your plate. Now you have come to your senses and tell your self, "I don't want shit on my plate, thats just nasty," and you pick it up, and take it off your plate. After walking back from the garbge can you look on your plate and what do you know, theres smears of fecal matter on your plate. ...
Over the life of your computer you will basically smear shit on top of it (napster, kazaa, even "harmless" programs like Adobe cs3). There is always some sort of trail of older programs that are on your computer. If you went in, removed the programs with "their" uninstaller, and even went as far as to go through the registry and delete entries that are related to the said program... you still will have some shit left on your computer.
How do you fix this? You get a new plate. You remember the food you liked (the vegetables were kinda tasty) and add it to your new plate. Look, theres no shit!
... I know that sounded retarded but really, thats the skinny of it. All the programs and all the registry entries that were previously on your computer ave been removed and you have a clean slate. So your computer will obviously have to run faster if your reinstalling the same operating system. Just make sure to back up your programs and also you may want to gather any drivers that will be needed once you reformat (typically a driver-less computer does not auto-detect network hardware, not always the case but from my experience it happens quite a lot.)
Hope that helped.

Reformatting is just a waste of time. Don't do it unless you have to.
