I recently downloaded the .iso file for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and burned it to a blank CD. I booted from the CD and tried getting into the test mode of Ubuntu (where it loads Ubuntu and allows you to use it without actually installing it) but it got errors. But when I had tried this a while ago with 7.04 it worked. It said I had a CD defect, but it's a read-only CD and I can't delete the files. Should I try burning 8.04 again or try a later version?

I am pretty sure there is an option to see if the CD has defects on the Cd... Look at the options when you boot the CD again

I did, it said one file was incorrect, not right, defective, anyway you want to put it. Should I just burn to a new CD?

Are you going to write over the WHOLE ENTIRE hard drive? or dual boot?

Also, do you already have Ubuntu installed? (any version, 6.04, 7.04)

I don't have any version installed. And I'm going to dual-boot, or if Ubuntu can be run on a virtual machine I will run it as a VM with Microsoft's VM software.

I wasted about 20 blank CD-R's trying to get Ubuntu working but I found out that when burning the ISO instead of burning it on the fastest speed possible burn it on the SLOWEST.

Haha, that's what my dad said to do. Btw, how do I change the burn speed on InfraRecorder?

Better idea....

Use something called Unetbootin...

It is a program. It downloads quickly and installs quickly. Then you restart your computer and select Unetbootin ubuntu from the selection screen...

This gives a very GUIless (meaning no Graphics or anything) interface...

I would not suggest this to someone who is fresh going into ubuntu, but it seems that its the best bet for someone like you Razz

I can walk you through it if you have a seperate computer, on MSN.

Generally when you push burn on any application, it will bring up a menu, from there you should be able to set the burn speed.

Oh you terribly misunderstood me.

Unetbootin is another way of installing Ubuntu. The only part that doesn't have a GUI is the installer... Wow i am misunderstood Razz

So basically you run the installer, restart, run the ubuntu installer and then use ubuntn normally.

It is a tad tricky, thats why i said i could walk you through via MSN via a second computer.

Would Ubuntu run as a Virtual Machine (VM) on Microsoft's VM Software?

Try burning again, and insert the 8.04 Disc in WINDOWS.

Use the dual boot option, and the rest should be simple.

(Well it worked for me)
