I guess it's time for me to get a new computer. I was wondering if you guys could make some suggestions, mainly on the mobo, and graphics/audio cards (I don't really know which are good). I'm thinking:

4 GB DDR2 RAM
300GB HD
3.0GHz Intel Duo Core x86
600W PSU
Nice smooth glossy, good looking case Laughing

Oh yeah, and I'm not a big gamer. I occasionally find a good game that I will play, but I'm not a serious gamer. I usually have lots of applications running, streaming music, etc.

Well, what do you want out of this "new computer"?

Please be more precise on what you want, then, when you're ready, maybe I can give you a proper answer/reply with a good suggestion.

I want a computer that is able to handle lots of applications running at once, about 3-4 of them big applications. It should be very quick, pretty much no lag when I'm just doing normal things. It should have good graphics and audio as well.

Instead of a dual core, get an Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600).

For the motherboard, a GA-EP35-DS3L would be good. The GA-P45-DS3L looks like a better deal (newer north and south bridges, PCI-e 2.0, 1600MHz FSB, up to DDR2 1200) for only $10 more.

For the graphics card, the 9600GT is still a pretty good deal. It provides quite some power for playing most games at their highest settings, but it's only around $100.

I don't have much experience with sound cards (because the onboard sounds work perfectly), but an X-Fi Xteme Music looks nice. Take advice from the 'pros' for a sound card.

Advantages of the quad core over the duo? Because the quad is only 2.4GHz while duo 3.0GHz

NEVER EVER compare a processor by its clock speed... thats stupid...

If you have two completely different processors and you compare the clock speed you will not get good results...

If you compared the same one (Q6600 @ 2.4ghz vs. Q6600 @ 3.4ghz) then it would make me sense...

END OF RABBLING!

Quad Core = 4 cores (2x 2cores)
Dual Core = 2 cores

That means more of your work would be spread over 4 cores instead of 2... Also you can always overclock the Q6600 to 3.4ghz or something.

Good point. Anything about the audio card, and also, I couldn't find any of those motherboards online.
