Yesterday my computer worked fine, now most of the time, when i close or open a window (for example double click on my documents) this error pops up:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

info:
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 036016d3

It has some more crap about sending microsoft the information. After i click do not send, my whole screen goes black, and it goes back to normal after a few seconds, but all the internet explorer windows i have they close, even downloads.

Could anyone help me with this?

check your processes in task manager, if explorer.exe is gone, go to command prompt, type explorer.exe, that should fix it.

The application is corrupted by some rouge infection most likely. Thats why it is crashing. Spy/Ad ware are poorly written in most cases, messing up explorer.exe

Suggestions:

Do spyware scan.
If this fails, do this:

1. Put your WinXP CD in your drive tray.

2. Go to Start|Run and type in "sfc.exe /scannow" (without the quotes). The system filechecker will run and replace any damaged system files.

Explorer is also known as the shell. Its pretty much the gui for everything in windows. If it gets corrupted, it can force everything to not work right. A lot of memory editing or registry tinkering can mess it up.
