I'm buying a new desktop soon, i'm stuck on a crappy dell laptop, it can barely handle 2d games. Well, i have around $450 to spend, not much i know but should be enough to play some decent games. What i have right now is

An eMachines T3612
3.46GHz Intel Celeron D processor 360
Intel 945GC Express chipset
1GBDDR2-533 SDRAM
120GB SATA II hard drive
16X DVD Writer (DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) drive with double-layer support
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
5.1 channel speakers
Windows Vista Home Basic

I think it's alright, it's a $350 off some shopping network site but i'm planning on adding a 2gb RAM card ($42) and a GeForce 7300 GT with silent heat sink ($64) so it'll run around $468 with S&H

If anyone can make a better comp for less do tell, i'm not an expert with comps, i have an alright understanding though.

The computer isn't really good at anything, besides internet surfing and word processing. No 3D games with the stock specifications. The specs are the lowest required to run Vista.

If you built that computer yourself, it would total around $300. A good CPU upgrade (to an Intel Pentium Dual Core) would increase the total to $350. Adding another GB of RAM will increase the price by around $20. For the video card, at that price range, you should find a few 8600GTs.

Do NOT buy and eMachine! Please, don't, they have horrible customer support and their recovery set up sucks.

The reviews on the graphs card said they were running HL2 w/o lag. This isn't going to be my main comp, it's just to hold me over until i save enough money to build a$1,500-$2,000 comp. I'vebeen using eMachines since i was about 6 and never needed to call customer support. Main thing i'll be doing with this comp is some 3D modeling, internet surfing and probably start playing fiesta again and try HL2 or something.

Edit: Searched around a little bit and found a 8500GT for $61, reviews say it's quiet but nothing about heat http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=204518077&SearchEngine=ya&SearchTerm=204518077&Type=PI&Category=Comp&dcaid=17194

Dude
Sorry but don't buy.

1.$450 isn't gonna get you a descent computer.
2.All the parts are pretty old and pricey.

I think you need to save another $550 if you wonna play descent games.
Or have around $700 and build one your self.

AND ytf r u getting vista. get XP, your computer won't hadle Vista even with out any other applications running.

Eh, I should be able to play the games i like, just not massive games like crysis or HL2 with max graphic settings up. I just copied that off the website, it comes with vista, i'm prob going linux, never tried it before and there aren't many linux-type games so i'll prob dual boot.
