I really want a serious rate 1/10.
How do i know if my computer is a single or a quad or a 2nd .

You computer is a Pentium 4 Processor, which is single core.
It is running at 3Ghz, pretty good for a pentium4.
To know if it's single core, dual core or quad core, look at the name.
Single core is Celeron, Pentium1/2/3/4 and theres more older stuff.
Dual core is Pentium Dualcore or Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Duo being the better latest models.
Quad core are Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Extreme (Best quad cores are called extreme)
Rating your processor.
2/10 seeming as der is now 3Ghz quad core which can be overclocked to 4ghz and if your motherboard supports 2 then you can get upto 8ghz Quad.
Also you only have 1 Gb of ram, you should think of upgrading to 2gb ram, it is very cheap and easy to install. It will rapidly speeed up your system allowing you to run better games, more applications at same time and also reduces stress on your computer.

It's okay, 3/10. It'll run XP well.
Pentium 4s are all single core.
Games won't have too much of a difference because of a RAM upgrade (unless your computer can't run the game because of the RAM). 1GB for XP, 2GB for Vista.
I can't completely rate your system, because you only gave specs on CPU and the amount of RAM you have. Your computer might have a 9800GX2 in it, or maybe an old video card (such as ATI's 9600PRO).

Doesn't work like that, no matter how many cores/CPU's you have the clock frequency is set. Single, dual, quad, even a pair of quads, 4GHz is 4GHz. Clock frequency is not a measure of performance and can't be added like that.
Back on topic, it's decent as long as you don't plan to game on it or anything. It'll handle basic tasks just fine.

Well if you have 1 CPU @ 2.4GHz and a second CPU @ 2.4GHz it therotically makes you have 4.8GHz...
On topic :: its old

That's a bad way to look at it though, both technically and metaphorically. You and your friends are going on a road trip, but you take 2 cars instead of one. You can carry twice as many people but both cars are still traveling at 60mph, not 120.
Clock frequency is a set rate inside the processor, not a measure of performance.
Sorry one of my pet peeves

Yeah Cheetah nailed it with the performance explanation.
Clock speed ceased to be the main factor a long time ago.
That would be like saying "I have an old machine that has a 3ghz pentium 4, and that must be better than my new system that has Core2Duo running at 1.8Ghz". Its not the way its done :p
A rating? Can't really rate it on a scale of 10, depends on what you want as always, and that is not a complete specification there.
If your looking for an excuse to upgrade, I'm giving you one now

Looks like a completely average computer for the time.

But a Q6600 running at 2.4GHz is different then one running at 4.0GHz, yes?

It all depends on the CPU architecture and how much work it does per clock, how efficient it is, etc.
One core from a Q6600 @ 2.4 is going to shit on a P4 at equal speeds.
Four cores @ 2.4 is just that, not 9.6 ghz of RAW DESTRUCTIVE NUMBER CRUNCHING POWER. It'd be great if things scaled like that 100% of the time, but unfortunately, it doesn't.

Guess no one else caught it in the first image, it is a P4 with HT (HyperThreading) which emulates a dual core system. Unlike an actual dual core processor, HT 'emulates' a 2nd core.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper_Threading
My score: 6/10
I don't know why everyone else was giving such low numbers, the processor is fine and will run probably anything you throw at it. However, I would suggest upgrading to a bit more RAM, possibly 2-4gigs instead of 1.
