Okay, my girlfriends computer is pretty messed up. At first It just wouldn't boot up normally (It would crash), but would boot in safe mode with no problems, but while I was out of the room trying to think the problem she opened it up and (A.)Accidently ripped the ribbon cable connecting the dvd burner to the mobo outta the mobo and <_> (B.) Musta screwed something else up and now the monitor says their is no input signal. I'm not concerned much for the burner but I WOULD like to get it working again. Everything inside looks pretty normal as far as I can tell. It's an HP Pavilion Slimline s7415c PC and wasn't really made for opening up and f'ing with. Built in psu and videocard completely standard retail model as far as I can tell. Any suggestions or advice?

Go into the bios and set bot configuration to hard drive only.
Disable all other boot options.

It's not giving anything to the monitor. Blank screen.

Cute girlfirends and computers don't mix... It is time for your girlfirend to get a new motherboard, I think she might have ripped something important out, more than just the cable.

What do you mean by Ribbon Cable.
Do you mean an IDE cable, it's very wide and has lots of thin cables in it.
If thats the cable she ripped then you can simply replcae the cable, it's very cheap.
Check the video card, try a new monitor first.
If the new monitor doesn't work try installing a new video card.
If the new video card works then there is a problem with you old video card.
Also check if any power cables are disconnected.

Yeah, it's a cable like that. New video card? I think i'll try that. Yeah, maybe the mobos screwed up, but this is a REALLY small retail computer=junk. If a new videocard doesn't work i'm gonna salvage the hard drive and junk it. Hmm... wait. I don't think it has a place to put a video card. I think it uses one onboard the mobo or something...Geez This thing is all shoved in. Not enough room to put one in unless I take this stupid dial-up modem out.

Ok, try remove the dial up modem, ytf do they still have dial up modems any way??
Back to the point.
That IDE cable is cheap, not even 1 dolla.
So try also get one from a local pc shop, he might even giv for free.
Another Questions y duznt any one go to a pc shop any more.
Everyone here only buys parts, never fixes the pc anymore via pc shop.
Back to the Point again.
If you get a new IDE cable and it doesnt work then its either the actualy DVD drive is stuffed or the IDE slot on the mobo is broken or mobo is broken.
Sorry dude

Why the hell was she tinkering about with it's innards, anyway?
If she "ripped" the IDE cable out, as you put it, she probably screwed up the motherboard. Looking for a motherboard compatible with all the crap in an HP computer is like looking for a plane engine to put in your car - it's not gonna happen.
I'd say it's time for a new computer. She'd probably be a good candidate for a laptop.
