What should the temperature be for this CPU when at 50% usage and 100% usage?
On Intel's website it says:
Code: | Processor # | GHz | Maximum Case Temperature (°C) | Maximum Recommended Fan Inlet Temperature (°C) | Processor Thermal Design Power (W)
X6800 | 2.93 GHz | 60.4 (°C) | 39 (°C) | 75W |
So I assume that it is suppose to run at most 60.4 (°C) then, right?
Because if so, Sager and I are needing to have a nice long chat. Because I have been playing Last Chaos recently, at max settings & resolution (and if you know the game, it isn't that intensive of a game...) with my fans at full and it has read 62-66 (°C) for about 20 minutes solid...

Those temps are within processory limits for sure.
You could opt for a better after-market cooling solution, as I assume you are just using the stock HSF assembly that came with the retail package.

It's a laptop.
But is that enough to be worried about?
I was just playing LC again, and it was getting into the high 60's- low 70's, fans at high, and on a table. Room temp around 70 F...
I'm wanting to make sure that I can use the CPU temperature as a way to convince Sager into allowing me to send this back, get some kind of credit from them, and get a different laptop, because this one I don't want to use this one any more, and would rather get another one that they have. But the 30-day return policy has been over for about 3 months now, and that's their reasoning for me not being able to return this (which I will say is fair and all).
Also, two of my hard drives are constantly at 58C, pushing 60C reguraly, and often above 62 (and the HD's max temp specs say 60C...). They are right next to each other vertically, and there is no way for me to get any more air in there than I am right now. Is there reason for concern there as well?
Oh, and it's on stock settings by the way.

Who puts desktop CPUs into laptops (besides Sager)? High power requirements, and a high heat signature. There is very limited air flow (compared to desktops) in laptops. Don't know how you could return the laptop without going into the warranty (damaging parts). Selling it would probably set its value lower than what you could get by returning it.
The temperatures are pushing the limit, but like [Psych] said, it is still okay. It might be a huge video card putting heat onto the CPU too. Dual hard drives aren't the best solution in laptops, but I think those temperatures are just barely okay.

Hmm...
Well, I have one technically that I could pull, but I'd feel like a real asshole if I pulled it on them. My webcam has never worked. The driver cd told me that it basically doesn't exist, simply told me that the device was not found.
So I guess I could say that I need the webcam working, and because with the program that I need to run, I need the laptop to be quiet, so I can't have the fans running at full, but when that happens, the CPU pushes 75-80 C (which would be a stretch of some kind, but I'm sure that I could easily pull that off with the fans at full depending on what I ran, suggestions on what to run to do this would work as well (just no benchmarking)) so I'm worried that the CPU will destroy itself or something.
At the same time I could overheat the HD's by running the programs off of the main one, instead of the 3rd HD (which I'm currently using as storage), and then cause data errors in my Window's drive due to over heating.
I had talked to them before I started wondering this, and was trying to explain how my needs have suddenly shifted, and that the shift was never expected or planned for, and that I need a more portable laptop than the one I currently have. To which the Sales Rep responded with
"You know you got a gaming laptop." If I could of reach through the phone I would of slapped the shit out of the guy. The was the main reason why I bought this. I had no intention of taking this laptop to class, but now I'm wanting to take a laptop to several of my classes, but the battery only lasts 90 minutes (which I must say is fucking amazing for what all is in this, one of my friends who is majoring in computer science, and her bf in computer engineering both thought that this had a 30-45 minute battery life.) So I hoping that I can convince them to take this back and replace it with a laptop(s) of equal value (whether that be 1, or 2 laptops.)
On second thought, I wouldn't feel like an ass.
1) When I got this laptop, there was a password on XP's root admin. On the pre-installed version that they installed. And all they could tell me to do was re-install. I asked them if they knew of any way that this could of happened and the guy I was talking to got annoyed and was nasty to me with the response of "no."
2) The wireless driver took about 3 weeks to fix after re-installing windows, and they couldn't figure out what was going on with it. On top of that I was having problems with the wireless on the pre-installed version of XP as well.
3) I had initally ordered a 2nd battery with this, and they had forgotten to mention that the 2nd battery would not arrive with the laptop. Apparently they wouldn't of been able to ship those until the middle of last month.
4) I had my dad hold the payment of the laptop because I had not received the 2nd battery (and this was before Sager told me that they weren't shipping, which took about 5 or 7 phone calls for them to tell me this.) And I had received about 4 phone calls to my cell phone asking about why they hadn't received payment for the laptop. We told Amex exactly why we were holding the payment, and apparently Amex hadn't passed the message along, and thus they were (indirectly) threatening to legal charges against me...
5) The right mouse button on the laptop doesn't work very well. Have to hit it on the inside of the button, not on the middle or outside portion.
6) The monitor's latches have broken off. How? I was using a microfiber cloth and cleaning my screen, not harshly, but I wouldn't say not absolute gently (I was using my palm to rub the screen, using a little pressure) and the two latches on the top of the screen broke off at the same time. No clue how, but they did.
7) It just been a horrible experience with Sager thus far.
But I know that they won't refund me my money, so the best I can hope for is the credit towards another laptop(s) of equal value. Otherwise I will ask for the remainder of my money back.
