What sort is it? Internal/External? What interface is it? Ie. PATA or SATA?
What OS are you running, what configuration is it in? Jumpers need setting if its a PATA, might need to have a peek in the BIOS, or manually format it.
I can help you but I need loads more info than "I got a new hard drive and can't access it, help!"

open up device manager in control panel>system>hardware see if it detects ur new harddrive. Also try to reformat for new harddrive, maybe the index file is missing so you can't access it.

umm...
External HDD Sata, im sure you mean e-sata.
Check the box or manual for instructions for installation.
Also check box for CD/DVD Drivers.
Anyway, plug in POWER and USB/FIREWIRE/E-SATA.
Check my computer for a new HDD, it may take a while for automatic drivers to be installed so leave the hdd on for around 30 mins MAX with a very slow pc. If after that problem still occurs come back for more assistance

Right-click my computer, click manage.
Open up disk management and if it shows the hard drive as a black unformatted space, you need to right-click and format, give it a drive letter and off you go. Assuming everything else is in order.
