Installed service pack 3.
So it installs, go across room to watch TV for a minute while computer reboots. Glance over, as it boots into windows, it blue screens.
Thinking "what the fuck?" I go over and watch as it tries to boot into windows and fails miserably again.
After panicing and trying to find my Windows disc for a good 20 minutes, I remember I had randomly decided to install Ubuntu a few weeks ago. So I booted into it, looked it up on the interconnect and apparently it's a common problem.
Solution: Copy gdi32.dll from the servicepackupdate folder to system32, replace. Win.
What the hell.

I'm too lazy to search right now, but is it out of beta yet?

Lol, in the stone-age there Zarr.
The has been a decent release floating about for ages.
Never had one issue with it myself.
A friend had HD audio onboard his mobo though, and that requires a 'hacked' audio bus driver before it would recognize the audio on the board, but other than that, it works sweet.
A wise update if you ask me, all them fixes/updates mainly. No newer features.
It doesn't come with IE7 and stuff like that like people first thought...

There's no 64-bit release so I haven't been able to try it, did it bring any tangible improvements?

I would imagine that would be in a cabinet file on the servicepackupdate folder so would be compressed and hard to do manually, you would have to be able to boot into windows and use this method
Use the Windows XP System Configuration Utility
If you don't have and don't want to obtain an archive utility, Windows XP has a utility that will decompress files from within a cabinet file. It's called the System Configuration Utility. You can access it by...
Click on the Start Menu.
Click on the Run item.
Type msconfig (with no quotes) into the dialog box and click OK.
Click on the General Tab in the box that appears and press the Expand File button.
Fill in the fields with the name of the file to expand, the cabinet file it's in, and the location where you want the file.
or you can get the file from here and unzipp it into the system 32 folder since you might not be able to boot into windows without blue screening

*ah I got to 60 posts, must mean I maxed out and can stop now*

Sure am!
I haven't checked for ages.
Well, here goes nothing. May as well install SP3.
Hope I don't get that problem you had, slovach. ;_;
EDIT: Yay, no problems installing SP3. I'm surprised. I'm usually a victim to Murphy's law, no matter what it is I'm doing.

Glad it works for ya. Of course it is expected of MS now to have it ready at this stage.
