I accidentally touched my laptop's lcd screen display very lightly. As I wiped off my fingerprints, I noticed that with even the smallest amount of force, the image around the area I applied pressure became wavy. After I was done with cleaning, I did not notice any problems. Does this pressure lead to problems in the long-run or any permanent problems? Any info, links to info, or feedback would be nice. Thanks!

It's just causing a wave through the liquid crystals. As long as you don't apply too much force for an extended period of time, your screen should be alright. A light poke every now and then can't really damage your screen.

But a ass-fucked friend throwing a pencil at it will cause serious side effects.
(yeah, I hate him)

So if I really damaged my screen by too much force, then I should be able to see and recognize damage right away? Or does it look normal until several years when the damaged pixels will appear defective?

It will be fine unless you manage to push so hard that you crack it or otherwise deform the screen. It's alright to use some force if you're cleaning it, etc, just don't get crazy and hulk out on it or some shit.

I've heard somewhere that touching your LCD screen can damage the transistors or something. Is this true? Otherwise, the only ways a screen can be damaged by touching is scratches and incredible force which cracks the layers of the screen right?

I guess that could happen if your very unlucky. I've never heard of that before.
But ya, the only real way to damage the LCD screen is to put a lot of force onto the monitor itself. Scratches can damage it, but I think there is a way to remove the surface scratches, I can't remember what its actually called though, or if there is such a thing. >.>"

.... Not what I was thinking of.
I was thinking of something along the lines of what is used on CDs to remove the surface damages, but I think that wouldn't work on a LCD screen.

What causes dead pixels? Is it a manufacturing error? Also, what happens when a transistor in the LCD breaks?
