|
|
Does anyone have a clue as to how i can access my Computer via Ip Address | Externally?
Detailed information:
I have a PSP , iTunes , and a PSP|iTunes-Server which allows me to locally stream my music from my PC to my PSP via iTunes.
It works just fine, with ZERO issues.
However, I wan't to connect from a hotspot or another location other than my home.
I type in 192.168.2.3, and stream my music Via PSP.
Now, I want to be able to go to school, and on my psp type 192.168.2.3:8080 and be able to access my PC, or w/e IP address i should use(Private | TCP/IP).
Any tips?

Well thats only going to allow you to access your computer while your on your router...
///
If you type in 192.168.x.x while your in school on your PSP, you will not get your computer, you will either get an error or some random computer...
///
192.168.x.x is what you put in if your PSP is connected to your router, and the computer your accessing is on the router.
What you could do is set up an Apache webserver... Then you can put things in /var/www/ that you want to access from anywhere in the world... Other people will be able to access it though, so you can password protect it
Do you want to setup an Apache Webserver? Ill give you a guide (I need your Operating System though).
-----If you have debian or ubuntu Linux do this-----
Type this in a terminal
Code: | sudo apt-get install apache2 |
Now you have apache2 installed, go to 192.168.1.1 (if you have a Linksys router).
Go to Games and Applications.
Now you have to open port 80.
Type in Apache2 for Applications,
for port range forwarding it will be 80 to 80.
Then Click both of the option boxes and put in 192.168.x.x or whatever it is (its probably what they all say).
Now click enable.
??? Did it work???
Go to www.google.com.
Search "My IP address".
Click the first one.
It should be something different than 192.168.x.x.
Now type http://that.new.ip.address/ into your browser.
Hit enter.
If it goes to a website and there is a directory,
double click it.
It should say "IT WORKS!" or something.
If it does, that mean it works!
------------
If you dont use Debian/Ubuntu/Linux im pissed....

http://www.sharing-file.com/
This application is very cool for that and you can allow and disallow/ block ban ips's that do not belong.
It even has a forum. But also a file upload and download system.
you can access it via internet as long as you have a login.
Pretty cool for private forums/file sharing.
All uploads and downloads and login are logged. And uploads are tagged with the uploaders login as well. If someone did share a login, they would not be able to get in with it if you have only ip's of the real login enabled.
Anyone else's ip will be logged when they try to get in and are not on the list.
login's can be disabled and you can make the peoples account you want them to have. No reason for them not to allow you to know the password for it cause you can clearly see it anyways from the server end.
I have used this before and it works great.

My idea sounds cooler... Your own Apache webserver...
But your idea is pretty smart. Do you have to upload the files? or do they access your computer? IF its the first one, my idea is better . If its the second one, ITS GREAT!

Hold on, ill right up a guide for Windows XP apache server...
http://johnbokma.com/windows/apache-virtual-hosts-xp.html
There you go. IF you ever have an old computer your just going to leave in a corner, i suggest putting Linux (operating system), Samba (to share through your network) and Apache, PHP and MySQL. This will enable you to have you own site.
Linux, because its small, free and fast. Samba, so you can add and edit files on your computer (this enables you to take the monitor off, so its just a computer that has access to the internet). Apache will enable you to have a webserver. PHP will enable you to have .php scripts implanted. MySQL will enable you to have databases and such.
There you go! I'm turning mine into a guide web server.

I know hardly nothing about Apache and this... but umm go to c:\apache groups\conf\httpd.conf and see if its there...
this is mine:
http://69.249.243.110/
Its much easier to do it on Linux...

Oh your using Vista? Thats the problem... Apache and Vista dont mix.
Also.... I really dont think you want to change Operating systems... It will erase everything. Also you cant run most programs on Linux.

hmm Just because your ports are open does not mean they can access it... They need someone to access to...
Do you have mIRC or MSN?
