The laptop is ancient.

For an extra 100-300 you could get a brand new dual core laptop.

I don't like laptops. If you buy a PC and a laptop at the same price, the PC will be better.

If your a mobile person, go for a laptop.

Although, it seems like you want it for a server?

You don't need gfx cards for servers, don't need monitors (just use an old one), don't need dvd/cd drives (just plug one in at first to install linux), shouldnt need much RAM, probably won't be running too hot, a stock fan should work fine for the CPU...

Definitely get a tower if you want to make a server.
