I am in College and I received an assignment from my instructor stating that I need to interview a computer programmer and I was hoping that one of you could answer the following questions for me, it would be much appreciated, this is for my Final Project and it is asking me to interview someone of my planned career path (Computer programming), thanks again.

1. What are the services, products, or functions of the organization?

2. What is a typical day like?

3. What type of physical localities are involved: outdoors, indoors, travel? Is there pressure? Routine? Variety? How much supervision is there? Do flexible work schedules exist? Is overtime typical?

4. What suggestions do you have for an individual wishing to enter this field of employment?

5. What do you like most about your job and why?

6. What do you like least about your job and why?

7. How did you decide to get into this field, and what steps did you take to enter the field? What alternative ways can one enter this field?

8. What training would you recommend for someone who wanted to enter this field now? What skills and background are needed to get into this field now?

9. What is the salary range for a person in this field? Entry level to top level salary.

10. What are the tasks you do in a typical workday? Would you describe them please.

11. What types of stress do you experience on the job?

12. Are resumes important in getting a job as a computer programmer?

That is a lot to ask..we're not really here to help you do your homework, but, once I get to work I'll put in some answers. I'm not a good computer programmer, but I do computer repair as an occupation already.

1. What are the services, products, or functions of the organization?
I work for a recovery center, I do HTML for their staff-only website.

2. What is a typical day like?
Sit there, wait for someone to say they have a problem, fix it, go back to sitting, I also get to play games/whatever on my computer.

3. What type of physical localities are involved: outdoors, indoors, travel? Is there pressure? Routine? Variety? How much supervision is there? Do flexible work schedules exist? Is overtime typical?
Mostly all indoors, not much pressure unless something really needs fixed. Boss supervises me by saying hi when I come in/when he needs something done. I can come/leave whenever I want in the day. Yes.

4. What suggestions do you have for an individual wishing to enter this field of employment?
Make sure you like doing it, sucks if you don't want to sit there for hours and code/fix stuff.

5. What do you like most about your job and why?
I do what I love in it.

6. What do you like least about your job and why?
It gets boring when no one has anything for me to fix and stuff.

7. How did you decide to get into this field, and what steps did you take to enter the field? What alternative ways can one enter this field?
I worked with computers for a year or so at home, then my programming teacher at school said his friend needed someone to do computer work, applied with some other students, got the job. I dunno about other ways, put in applications I suppose.

8. What training would you recommend for someone who wanted to enter this field now? What skills and background are needed to get into this field now?
-Lazy-
9. What is the salary range for a person in this field? Entry level to top level salary.
I started out at 7.50 USD an hour, up to 8.00 USD an hour in 3 months, will rise more as my hours rise. Boss makes a good 11.xx an hour.

10. What are the tasks you do in a typical workday? Would you describe them please.
-Lazy-

11. What types of stress do you experience on the job?
'Why won't you work?!?!!'

12. Are resumes important in getting a job as a computer programmer?
Yes, very.

13. What are the opportunities for advancement?
There are a lot, none off the top of my head.

14. Is this field expanding? Taking any new directions?
Yes. Computers are taking over the world.

15. What related occupations might I investigate?
IT, Networking, computer repair, game programming, etc.

I also need your name please. Thanks.
Put my name as Mark, not my real name, but you don't need to know my real name.[/quote]
