$85 speakers and only one of them is working. they have an AUX input for like an ipod or whatever and when i plug in my ipod both speakers work. when i unplug it, only one speaker works. whats the problem here?

Have it set to 1 speaker only on your PC, possibly?

the balance is set to the middle in my volume control

I have a second volume control and speaker settings where I can set it to 1 only, with it ignoring how it is set in volume control. Check if your computer has that.

where is that?

EDIT: it was a hardware problem. the speaker input in the back of my machine was broken. the one in the front works just fine.

With my speakers (2 speakers and a subwoofer) the problem with it was the cord from my computer to my subwoofer; it sucks so it only sees 1 of the speakers and the subwoofer. It works great when I use it for Xbox 360 though.
