Well, got a computer with XP on it yesterday. Set it all up today, but I can't get a connection on Vista through my router.
If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. I have gone through a bunch of guides, most for XP to XP, few with actual answers on what to do. None with a working solution.

Wonderful diagram of how my hardware is set up.

your ethernet drivers are installed properly and under network connections (or in device manager) your ethernet connection isn't "disabled" is it? i know you've probably checked this but just in case. and also try with a different ethernet cable, and test your ethernet card, make sure it works (iono how lol).

Forgot to mention, I get an IP address on the Vista computer, so I know I have a connection some-what. Can't share files/folders nor access the internet though.

maybe it has to do with your modem then, if you know that your computer has a connection with it. also make sure your antivirus isn't being an ass.

I would say it's Vista's firewall fucking up, disable all firewalls and then try it.

Though in theory if you have an IP and the router has an IP then you should at least be able to get on the internet, but Vista is a nightmare for networking Sad

sharing files?
so it can cnnect but cannot share file?
here's a solution :
after connected to the router :
1. right-click on ur network tray icon.
2. select network n sharing center
3. turn on network discovery, file sharing and public folder sharing.

internet problem?
here wat u hav to do :
1. go to network and sharing center
2. click manage network connection
3. right-click ur lan (if u use lan) or wireless (if u use wifi duhh)
4. Head properties.
5. find internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPV4).hit properties
6. tick obtain ip address and obtain dns automatically.
7. apply and ok...

try it...

using Vista Business myself..

I can share some things, like files that I put in the folder, but I can not print to my printer even though it appears on Vista.

For the TCP/IPV4, those are both checked already. I put in 10.0.0.1 for the IP hoping that it would change the main IP and connect once I selected obtain automatically again, but still nothing.

My Modem is connected to my XP computer through a USB cable for drivers, I plan on moving it and installing it on the Vista computer later when no one normally calls (It has to be on for phone calls to go through.) and installing the drivers on there + check to see if it can connect without the router. If it doesn't, well...I'll stab something.

I would just switch to XP on it, but my mom bitched. 'I paid $700 fucking dollars for you to switch to XP?! NO!' So damn annoying.
