Cheat Engine

Well I downloaded portal, and everything works except for one thing. When a portal opens up, the game crashes. I think it might be because of my specs.
Something that might be causing the crash:

System:
Processor:Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.80 GHz
Memory:1528 MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0C (4.09.0000.0904)

My operating system is XP. Does it crash because of my requirements?

obviously it doesnt crash because of your requirments since you meet them.. maybe even exceed some of them.

I have no clue why they tell you that you need x.xGHz because each processor has different ghz, but it doesnt mean its better.

you cant compare Intels Quad Core and Intels Dual Core by GHz... thats silly...

i'm almost certain you can support directx 8/9

maybe look up a FAQ for portal

I am pretty sure it's the program, because everytime an orange portal opens up, the game crashes T-T. And I am using a cracked stand alone version. So that might be it.

he means redownload your video cards drivers... which for you since its onboard, would be on the CD that came with your motherboard.

I think your video card is the problem here..

You have sufficient memory (RAM) and cpu..

If nothing else helps, I guarantee you will get it to work properly with a new video card.

Oh yes, and I had a cracked stand alone version too. You might want to re-download it.. (Am I allowed to say this? Shocked

I think it crashes because of the video card. Do you get any error messages? Does it crash when you shoot the yellow one but not when you shoot the blue one?

Try shooting the yellow one first. If it crashes when you try to shoot the blue one next, it crashes every time a PORTAL BETWEEN THE TWO PORTS opens.

I fixed it. It WAS because of my video card. I had an intel chipset. I added the parameter -game portal +mat_softwarelighting 1 -heapsize 128000 -dxlevel 81 to it and made it work.
