I want to know all about anything that has to do with the internet: modems, routers, ip address(public and private), networks, everything. Computers as well(really, more just how they function). I just want links, on what these do and how they do it with in-depth explanations. Sorry, if this sounds demanding, it just kind of sounded like that, maybe I should add a please. Yea, please. Lol. Or someone can add me to msn and tell me lol.

The internet is full of information. Enter one of those keywords in a search engine and voila.

i reckon the best way is by experience. i know pretty much everything i know about computers from experience and getting stuck. reading books and stuff is useless to me unless i use that information straight away to fix a problem, and then i never forget it. with networking for example, try set up a small one at home if you have a couple of computers and you'll find the information you want by doing this and getting stuck. with modems and routers, just set up your own connections at home and you'll learn.

Like your suggestion. Books are good for me, but I too only truly grasp things by either using them or getting stuck and having to using it. But, the thing is with this, I don't really wanna know how to do this stuff, I want to know how it works, what it does, etc. But yes, I guess setting up a network, modem + router would help a little. But I'm already hooked up on a network with my family. I also already have a modem and a router. Should I just ask my dad to disconnect me from the hub(that would take me out of the network right) and, like take me off the internet and let me try to set it up with my own router and modem?

1. Depends on your location, different companies have different locations and some are better

2. What you signed up for

3. What hardware you are using

4. WLAN: How far you are from it and how far you can get connections

5. How many people are connected

T3 is the best, 56k is slowwwwwww
And even if your connection says 100.0 Mbps or 54.0 Mbps, that's max if you have the best connection, even though like only 10,000 people in the word have that kind of connection.

if you have dialup it is suck ass anything else you should be ok
you dont even really need a router unless you use multiple computers

most isps (not dialup) come with a nice motem usually a motorolla or a westtel

your main concern is your network card (usually people have a 10/100) and ensuring that you have the proper drivers for them

go to your isp webpage and there is hours of info on boosting your internet connection
