Does the router show connectivity on the activity lights or any other way? How exactly does it not work?

Reset both the router and the modem, once they've reset go to run, type in cmd, hit ipconfig/release, then ipconfig/renew. If that doesn't work, go into the router settings. release then renew there.
Make sure DHCP is enabled in your router settings.
