or gtfo.

E2140 @3.11GHz, not bad performance for $69 Razz

Probably gonna get a Penryn quad early next year when the mainstream chips come out. 45nm, 12mb cache, SSE4, crazy high clocking, sounds good

I think I'm gonna go for the lowest Penryn quad and overclock the piss out of it. However, I've never used SLi before and I'm considering it for my next build, which chipsets support it? Confused

I know that the P35 and X38 chipsets will support the new 45nm processors (might need a BIOS update) Those are Intel chipsets, and since NVIDIA didn't give Intel SLI permit, you can't run in SLI with those chipsets. The NVIDIA's nForce 680i chipset doesn't support the new Intel processors. Here's the good news, the upcoming nForce 780i will support 45nm Intel processors, and will support triple SLI.

Core 2 Quad Q9300 4 2,50 GHz 6 MB 1333 MHz 7,5x 95 W Jan. 2008 $ 266
Core 2 Quad Q9450 4 2,67 GHz 12 MB 1333 MHz 8x 95 W Jan. 2008 $ 316

Those are the two "cheapest" processors that will come out. Q9450 is mine, because I don't like that the Q9300 only have a cache of 6MB and a 7.5 multiplier.

Hopefully by the time those processors are released, the price for those X38 motherboards will drop *looks at the P5E3 Deluxe*

EDIT: Forgot to tell that even though you can't run in SLI with the P35 and X38 chipsets, you can run in CrossFire.

Hmm, I was gonna go for the lowest chip, but twice as much cache and the higher multiplier justifies the extra cost. Any idea when this 780i chipset will be released for Intel? I've seen AMD boards with it so I can't imagine it'd be too far away.

If there's not delays and everything goes well, on the December 17th, well that's what people say on the internet. There are already reviews on the internet, so it can't be far away.

Awesome, I won't be ordering until early next year anyway, hopefully the new nVidia cards will be out by then so I can just get a single one of those.

What's the status on the PCI-e slots on those though? I have a high-end PCI-e RAID card that I don't wanna put in some half-assed 1x electrical slot like on some boards I've seen. Why anyone would have a physical 16x, electrical 1x slot is beyond me though...

sup AMD 4400x2+ now @ a stunning 2.6ghz.

yeah, that's the limit for it, I can't get it any higher before it starts to fail Orthos. 400mhz OVERCLOCKKKK, FEEL THE POWER.

i figured I may as well wait for the nehalem chips to hit from intel. nvidia better have their next generation out by then. all i really play now is Call of Duty 4 and my computer eats it anyway. Neutral

8 cores is ridiculous.

As for myself, I'm not ready to wait till late 2008 to upgrade. I'll get a Nehalem processor, when the time is right (when the non-extreme version comes out)
