				| i'm guessing it's a ban against using a certain piece of hardware which must give you more of an advantage than others? _________________

				| That is a ban of the mac address of your network adapter. The only way to really get by this is to change the net card.
 Good luck on that with xbox live

				| It can be more then just your mac address. Every piece of hardware in your system has a hard coded serial on it that is obtainable via API. Some games are designed to incorperate these API in them to pull system information to be used while banning cheaters. The common elements I have seen banned with were:
 - Mac address
 - Nic
 - Harddrive
 - Motherboard

 Of course, this can be bypassed by hooking the API and you can change the mac address of your nic.

				| actually, there is a registry edit you can do to make your network card's mac address different. (Doesn't work on all cards, but most support it) It's a good way to change your ip if your dhcp server assigns it according to MAC (have to look it up but I myself use it since my isp locked my modem to my laptop's MAC)

 Yea, the key would be:
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

 A tutorial on how to do it:
