Can't wait for Ivy Bridge.
Promising to replace dual cores with quad cores for entry level computing and replacing quad cores with eight cores (oct cores? i derno lol) for the mainstream and enthusiast.

I say the new 2011 CPUs will be beast enough for me to upgrade all my hardware simultaneously. If you're someone that got an i5 on release-day, then what's wrong with it? If you're already running everything at max that you use, then what's the point in upgrading your hardware anyway?
Edit: Being able to run anti-virus scans at the same time? wat
| AMD Releases backwards compatible sockets all the time, and they only use one at a time. Right now they're using AM3. With Bulldozer, they'll release the AM3+ socket, which will backwards compatible with AM3 processors When they come out with their next socket after that (AM4?), it'll be able to use AM3+ processors and maybe even AM3 processors.
On the other hand, there's Intel, using two sockets as their latest ones. Since it costs more to mass produce two motherboards than one, they cost more. The cheapest socket 1156 mobo on Newegg is $65, and the cheapest 1366 is $165. The cheapest AM3 motherboard on Newegg is $40 ($25 after rebate), and in general you can find one with any and all the practical features you want for under $100. This is the biggest reason I always strayed away from Intel. It's not just the processors that tend to be more expensive, but the motherboards as well.

I dont think an am4 cpu will be out any time soon though. The socket number is usually relevant to the ram type as ive seen. So I'm banking if the bulldozer is am3+ socket, it will be around for a nice time. Other wise it may still use am3.

Intel's performance differences are worth the extra cash as far as I'm concerned.

Well shit. | Oh, well gee, thanks for bringing to my attention that I should never buy Intel anything ever. Honestly, there are going to be armies of people working on exploiting that.

doesn't apply to you.
ps you likely have hardware in your computer that already does DRM. PAVP is the protected audio video path. Your video card already has DRM support so you better get cracking on tearing it out since you are so comically paranoid.
