5.7 is the limit afaik, the multiplier cannot go any higher

also those voltages are insanely dangerous, especially given that it's a 32nm chip. you will kill your chip fast at that voltage, only good for showing off.

Why is everyone making such a big deal over this sandy vagina? Its just a cpu, get over it. Intel makes 30 different sockets a year. Nothing new.

Hero: I like how you're not backing anything up with facts.

The big thing about these chips is how they are closing the gap for video encoding without the need for the graphics card. They're faster and cheaper then the current Intel processors.

Why raging on the socket anyway?
What speed/capability differences does it have in comparison to the up coming 2011?

Edit: The OCs look nice. Crazy that most of the high ones are on air.
Makes me wonder how stable they are though, need someone to run prime95 for 48 hours without a crash.

He's talking about how Intel keeps making new sockets, requiring anybody upgrading their processor to also have to upgrade to a newer mobo.

I'd expect someone to upgrade everything if they're upgrading their CPU. (Minus the PSU, that is)

So if someone had an i5, 480, however much 1333MHz DDR3 memory, 1TB WDC Blue, and wanted to upgrade to an i7, you'd expect them to also upgrade to a 580, 2TB WDC Black, and twice as much RAM at 1600MHz?

Because that's just plain stupid.

Why would you upgrade a notebook processor?

because it's ridiculous performance wise for the price point. it crushes everything.

also i've never once upgraded a cpu to one of the same socket.

also also intel has another socket coming up for the high end. it's unavoidable because they are using quad channel memory, which is why the pin count spikes up so sharply.

Overclock3D cranked the i5 2500K up to 5GHz using the Noctua NH-D14.

Apparently they were able to keep at below 76c at all times while gaming! 5GHz for a stable overclock is pretty impressive.

1.6 voltage is too much, temps are irreverent. you are going to end up with a dead processor instead.

not safe for 24/7 or at all really.

Yeah, I just realized what the voltage was after this post.

Still though, I'm not exactly experience at overclocking, so I'm liking gonna push this baby to 4.0 to 4.2GHz. Knowing I can do this on air cooling is pretty cool imo.

An i5 480 M is a mobile processor.

Edit: If you're talking about a nVidia GTX 480, be specific.
If you're talking about an i5, what sort of i5?

Edit2: If you've gotten an i5, then you aren't someone who really cares for TOP-OF-THE-MOTHER-F--ING-RANGE.
A 2011 CPU will of course has a new socket. It's always been like that with computing.

E.g.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_socket

Edit3:
Also note that the Intel Core i5 (700, 600 series) and Intel Core i7 (800 series) are on the same socket.

If you're going for performance, you will wait till Q3 of 2011 for the Sandy Bridge B2 (Socket 2011). The socket 1155 ones aren't worth your time if you're already on an older i5 or i7 (socket 1156).

There's a comma there for a reason; I was listing the parts. Plus, it really doesn't matter what kind of i5. Sure different ones would have variance in performance but specifically how well it would perform isn't the point, it's comparative performance is. i5, GTX480, and a good amount of DDR3 @ 1333MHz is still a high-tier computer, it can run all of the newest and highest-demanding games at highest setting without breaking a sweat. Of course, an i7, GTX580, and double the memory at a higher clock would be able to do this better with quite a bit more leg room, however not that much better that it makes sense to pay $500+ for it while you already have a very high-performance computer.

So no, there are plenty of situations where it would make sense to upgrade just one part.

I am confus.

What are we arguing?

I say the new 2011 CPUs will be beast enough for me to upgrade all my hardware simultaneously. If you're someone that got an i5 on release-day, then what's wrong with it? If you're already running everything at max that you use, then what's the point in upgrading your hardware anyway?
Edit: Being able to run anti-virus scans at the same time? wat

Considering I'm someone with a couple of PCs running AMD Athlon 64 x2, then I'm quite excited about the chance to upgrade to the higher end 2011s in Q3.

Edit: Does anyone know the GT/s of the AMD equivalent sockets?
Socket G34
Socket C32
