@kreptix, the 8800GT is the best bang for the buck at the moment. |
I'm planning to buy two 512mbs so it could be 1gb shared (if thats how it works).

Prices for the 8800GT should probably drop by a little bit, since the new 8800GTS is coming out in mid December.

Which is something I plan to buy if my Dell motherboard supports it.

It should as long as you have a PCI-E x16 slot. Here's an article about the 4 modes that Crossfire supports, just if you were wondering. Click here

memory does not add like that on video cards.
this is what the game looks like on low/medium. yes i play in a 1280x720 window because i have come to discover the ease and amazingness of playing in one, and i use low settings in multiplayer, because i'd rather have visibility and fps over prettiness.

Oh lawd. But reading reviews on the ATi Radeon, it says I can play Crysis on medium settings of 1024x768.

As long as I can play it, but eh, I'm looking forward to either getting two 256mb 2600XT HDs or one 512mb 2600XT HDs.
Does it matter if I mix and match? Like one is 256mb and the other is 512mb?

I believe that Crossfire permits you to do that, but I'm not 100% sure.
I was just reading this review of a 8600GT 256MB vs a 2600 XT 256MB, the review can be found here. You may find it interesting.

Well... yeah =( It would be really nice if you could get the 8800GT or wait for the new 8800GTS. You wouldn't even be able to compare the performance between the 2600 XT vs the 8800 GT. The 8800GT just blows it away.

incoming metric fuckton of screenshots of it at maxed out settings.
(they are still uploading now, once the 40th one gets there, it's done.) feel free to rummage around and look at other ridiculous shit i've collected over time.

my FPS is still pretty good, and even while it doesn't matter until it drops under 60(refresh rate), bigger numbers make me feel better. :3

Well, I selected this video card because it was the best from all the options I had. But, will the 8600GT be compatable with the custom Dell Dimension 350 I am getting?
