cmss-3d is pretty nice if you have a headset, some other cards will do something similar. it's their equivalent to dolby headphone. creative's drivers are fucking pathetic though. | Well I do have a headset additionally. Where can I find a card that supports cmss-3d? _________________

how about some more sound card suggestions as well? I need one, as of right now my audio in Crysis cracks a lot due to the integrated card. _________________

Biggest indicator is that there are certain noises in some of my songs that I can no longer hear, or hear very differently. _________________

Most will still go with Creative due to their popularity much like if you ask what is the best photo imaging software? 90% of them will immediately say Adobe Photoshop, even if there's alternatives like GIMP and Paint.net.
The latest from Creative will be their X-Fi line up and speaking of the X-Fi, they have been selling their audio chip to 3rd party sound card makers.
Another to look at is the Asus Xonar. The D2/X has a unique feature, its jacks are LED coded so you can see where your plugging into when its dark.
In games you will want the latest EAX and the latest is EAX 5.0.
Creative's gaming mode brings out the full functionality of the X-Fi.

I have via now and I found not only did it work better, but my mic is clearer. |

Mind linking to a recommended x-fi? Newegg has some bad reviews with a few of them, such as bad drivers/software and it not supporting AC3/Dolby. _________________

Sure VIA is 10x easier to get working, however ever since switching I've been told my mic sounds really shitty in source games on random servers, while others say I sound great (I have a good headset too). _________________

My X-Fi Xtreme Music is still working fine after 5 years of use, and don't have any plans on getting a new sound card unless the next board I get will only have PCIe, then I'll need to get a new sound card. For a new sound card, I'll still go with Creative mainly because they're the one that makes the standard for EAX.
If I need a sound card now, here are my choices

The Titanium has two version, the one with the cheaper shipping cost has a 1 year warranty, the other has 5 years.
The fatal1ty comes with 64MB of X-RAM where the non-Fatal1ty comes with 16MB.
And the last one Titanium HD has the highest SNR 122dB compared to 109dB on the other two.
1st choice: Titanium HD but 64Mb of X-RAM on the Fatal1ty is nice, my current only has 2MB so 16MB will be a huge difference.
2nd choice: the Titanium with the 5 year warranty and it's the cheapest of the line up. The Titanium HD also have 5 years.
3rd, the Fatal1ty because it's price is jacked up due to the "Fatal1ty" logo and 64MB of X-RAM. This only has a 1 year warranty _________________

I guess it depends on which integration you have. |

Can't seem to find any important info on the VIA VT1818 as it doesn't exist yet there is a VIA VT1818S. Does the "S" represent something or did Asus mistype it on their specs?
According to the web, most will prefer Realtek over VIA as Realtek provides more driver updates thus fixing issues some users may have with their onboard sound. _________________

I ordered these speakers and they came yesterday.
Hooooly shit this is a big fucking subwoofer. It's easily double the size of an mATX case. Twice as wide is my mid tower and half as high; same length though. _________________
