NOD32, low cpu usage, cathes everything, nice UI
Microsoft Security Essentials, low cpu usage again , free, works, no adds, still didnt find anything it doesen't catch
Avast, before Security Essentials, takes up even less cpu but has those annoying adds -.-

Not that well known, also rarely competes in comparisons. Probably not that good.
I use Avira and Avast, the former for its realtime protection and the latter for the network shield thingy (blocks malicious websites I think). If you are willing to pay then Eset or Kaspersky.

Symantec Norton 2010
Kaspersky IS
ESET NOD32
Avira AntiVir
Avast!
Microsoft Security Essentials
All of the above are pretty good. As far as free AVs go, MSE is what I would recommend for its high detection rate, low false positives (AntiVir has much higher false positives), low system overhead, and usable GUI (IMO Avast's UI is horrible).

I'd recommend MSE.
Works like a charm, and it's free if you have genuine Windows.

| ESET is great, but windows 7 firewall its self is the best a windows pc has ever had. You will need an AV, but for blocking stuff, windows 7 firewall does good.

I use avast, It blocks most shock sites such as nimp, so whenever a fake linking fad comes up in rs I usually don't have to worry about it.
PC tools antivirus is also good, it too has a realtime protection feature.
