my friend once had an acer laptop, his dad bought him a new one
this christmas he gave me his old laptop
but i asked him why did the laptop became a piece of CRAP
he said maybe its infected with virus so i reformatted it (XP)
but it always lag
he said its kept under the bed (i dont know why he put it there)
it takes 32 minutes to fully startup, and there is nothing on the startup folder
it lags even when browsing the internet and typing in MS office
it is also VERY slow, when you open a folder, it takes 1.5 mins to open
typing a letter has a 5-10 second delay
you get what i mean, VERY LAGGY
the specs are:
intel core2duo 1.66GHz, 667MHz
intel graphics media accelerator 950
60 GB HDD
256 MB DDR2

Yeah it is not the fact that it was under the bed.
Maybe the fact that the hard drive is only 60GB or that he only has 256mB of ram...

are you really asking why it's so slow... I mean he gave it to you for free, which kind of tells you something. Also, it's not a virus, it's just a slow computer, that's it

Buy a 1GB DIMM of DDR2. If it's still crap, it was probably the hard drive in the first place.

well, ive seen him using the laptop, it wasnt that bad before, we even played many games on it like: gunbound, gta san andreas, ran online, red alert 2, sims 2, and some other games which i forgot but when we played those games, there was completely no LAG, now even surfing internet and typing documents bring too much LAG
all im saying is that it wasnt LAGGY before

He already reformatted it. | There has to be something different between the old install and the new install. Its the same OS right? So something must be running that was not before.

Lol 256MB of ram is horrible, buy yourself 1GB or 2Gb and you should see a difference.

Startup programs? Your friend might have disabled some stuff to improve performance.

It's not because of the specs.
Well.. yea your ram ain't that good but a 5-10 sec. delay in typing?
Download Everest and check the tempertures.
A friend of mine also had a smiliar problem with his laptop (better specs though).
And his GPU/CPU ALWAYS used to be at 90°C. So he thought that there may be dust n' stuff in the cooler. He took a hoover and cleaned it, since then his tempertures are like 60-70°C and it's much faster than before.
Try it

1. 256 MEGABYTES of ram.
2. replace the damn hard drive, 60GB and prob 5200RPM
3. Do not listen to hero he is an obvious retard; "Maybe its a virus" HE JUST REFORMATTED KID.
4. If that still doesn't fix it, return both items, disassemble the laptop and sell the lcd, keyboard, cpu,
