Make sure your mobo supports however much you're planning on buying. Don't exceed in Mhz either.

If you're not sure about what your computer can handle, check out this website.

Yeah what everyone said. Also RAM is really, really cheap now, so don't hesitate to buy them.

yeah but don't buy too much if your computer can't handle it, it'll be a waste.

When buying Random access memory (RAM), there are a couple things you half to watch out for.

-Make sure your mother board supports the RAM
-Make sure you are not putting to much ram into your mobo
-Make sure your getting desktop RAM or laptop RAM

yeah but you should be able to tell the difference between laptop and desktop RAM from the huge size difference.

Also, if your board calls for DDR2 533, you can put DDR800 in it and it will just clock down, but if your board wants DDR2 800 you shouldn't put 533MHz in it.

meaning you cannot increase ur ram with a program. you have to buy the hardware. (ram)

You can't, and it doesn't matter anyway, RAM costs nothing these days. I just picked up 4GB for $79, and you can get a 1GB stick for $18 on newegg.
