Cheat Engine

If there is a game score/value that changes every second that is on a timer. Can I change this score, i've already changed the time and got a score related to that time, but can I change the score itself. I've tried doing it, and everytime I change the value in cheat engine the game still updates. I was also wondering since there is a 390,000 limit, can I bypass this with cheat engine and change it to example 600,000? I've replaced the value of 300,000 with NOP and i changed the value once again in cheat engine, it was paused and not moving with the time but when I changed it to anything it would not update in the game. Any help would be appreciated.
