Hello. Which methods can I use for find fog of war address in RTS game? I used "Unknown Initial Value". Then I go to spectator mode, press disable fow button, then in CE I press "Next Scan - Changed value" and then make other things with "Next Scan - Unchanged value" and then again Changed etc... I get about 10-20 addresses and one address works nicely. I change it and fow state is changed. But it works only few time, next time in this address will be other value and changing its value will not do anything. Also finding by value doesn't find it too. Any other ways to find real address?
I'm 99% sure that it's possible because there is available maphack for the game(but it's paid)
BTW: I was finding by 4 bytes value, but I don't ever sure that it's it. I don't know how to get value type. But In similar case it was 6 bytes but 6bytes is not available in CE(why?) |

I don't really know anything about FOW though I'd guess there's either a boolean (maybe a bit if packed) controlling it completely or an array of values corresponding to the map indicating how much fog should be there whether buildings should be shown but not units because someone was there but isn't now etc.
But since you can find a value that works, perhaps try seeing what accesses it while it's working?
However as for Quote: | But In similar case it was 6 bytes but 6bytes is not available in CE(why?) | CE probably doesn't have a 6 byte type because there aren't 6 byte types, at least not in any programming language I've ever used and I've used a number of them at this point. You go from 1 to 2 to 4 to 8 bytes, powers of 2 because binary. Though you could have an array of six 1 byte elements or 2/3 elements that are 3/2 bytes in size for a total of 6 bytes, or an 8 byte value that's manually split with bitwise operations. You can scan for an array of six bytes... but the scan option is pretty much limited to exact byte scans. It's possible someone has created a custom type for 6 bytes, though I don't remember seeing one myself. _________________
