I'm having an issue where any time I try to scan a process of any kind, cheat engine stops responding immediately after it finishes scanning. Anybody know how I can fix this?

what ce version do you use ?

and usually when something freezes it's either an anti virus protecting you, or a path with non-ascii characters (like the temp scan folder)

Version is 1.8.2 currently, but I'm having the same problem with 1.7 and 1.8.1 as well. As far as I know, I don't have any anti-viruses running. I quit Malwarebytes before running it and I don't use Windows defender. The path definitely doesn't have any non-ascii characters.

you 'quit' malware defender. Just stopping those things usually causes severe system instability because they have a kernelside hook that they can't turn off, so when the filesystem hook sees something suspicious it pauses the current code and then asks the controller program on how to continue. And if it's not there wait forever

restart your computer (don't shut down and restart, that's faked in win10) and then try again.

OK, here's what I did: I made sure malwarebytes was not set to autoboot. I restarted the computer. Checked to make sure it wasn't in the system tray. I started cheat engine and tried to scan a windows explorer process... didn't freeze. Then I opened Assassin's Creed Odyssey and searched for a value, and the thing froze again. After that point, it froze any time I tried to scan any process. As far as windows defender, it says under virus checking: "managed by your organization," which I think means "off."

"managed by your organization" sounds like something is still running, so you'll need to figure out what is "managing" your "protection". Check for the "real time protection" on defender and make sure it says "off".
