|
|
Hello everybody,
I'm still a beginner at hacking video games, so I thought I could practice on a little game. Tadpole Treble is a nice music indie game. I managed to raise the score and the bubbles counter to 100 (there are 100 bubbles each stage) with simple 4 byte base address searches.
I also did that with the health bar, which has 6 units. I searched for the value and froze it to get Invincibility. But then I discovered that the address changes every time you start or re-start a stage. And then I had to search for the right address over and over.
So I figured I have to search for a pointer. I used "find out what acesses this address" and did everything what the tutorial told me. I end up with an address with a P in front of it that shows the value of the health bar, which works within the stage, but when I go to another stage, the pointer address becomes useless and the health bar decreases again.
When I use "find out what writes to this address" and replace the code, the game crashes.
I want Invincibility at the start of every stage, without the need to search for an address.
What am I doing wrong here?
I hope you can help me with that. Thank you!

go for deeper levels, find more offsets.
if you get many results then you have to test them all, or use pointer scanner.

I repeated this process and then I end up with about 15 addresses. I tested them all but none of them worked. When I use the pointer scanner I get 2000+ results but I don't know what to do with them.

Restart the game, then do some rescans to refine it down. Then when you have good pointers just add one to your table.

2000+ is a good result tho, i got 5 billion+ once.
and as tim13 said, restart your process .. open your saved pointer list and rescan it.

I think I got one step further, sort of. I was able to narrow the pointer scan to three pointers and when I froze them, they gave me invincibility. There are 12 stages in the game and strangely, sometimes only one or two of the pointers were active and showed the right value, while the other only showed question marks. But in some stages all three were active. I saved this result as Cheat Table but when I restarted the game, the three pointers only showed question marks and became useless.

Increase the pointer scanner level, and when you see "??" rescan, restart the game and rescan a lot, start a new save even and rescan a lot with game restarts; then when you think your good, restart the game and rescan.
The best way to use the pointer scanner is to have multiple computers with different saves and different levels of progress. The pointer scanner just finds all possible paths and you have to rescan again and again to remove paths that don't work; basically you try and break pointers then rescan to remove them. And these pointers can be deep, so you may need to go for 7 or 8 level pointers or higher; which can require 100s of Gigabytes for the scan files.
Here are some videos that may help.

EDIT:
Make sure you are always scanning for the right address as well, the best way is to find an instruction with "see what accesses this address", Save the instructions address and use that to refind the right value address for each restart and rescan.

Thank you for your help! I guess it's good that I took a rather plain game as training ground. The three pointers worked again after I was smart enough to notice that I forgot to open the process after I started CE... Sorry!
