Cheat Engine

Hello!

I watched a lot of tutorials online for Cheat Engine to get a grasp on what the program would be and it seemed easy enough to at least start using. I used it on two games and came up with two very different problems and I was hoping someone here could help me.

Problem 1: I am trying to get infinite health for one game that uses hearts so I used an unknown variable search with any as the type. I think I have those terms right. Anyways, I got my search for the health down to two options. Both said the same thing so I know that must be what the health is since I narrowed it down by trial and error. This is where my problem starts. The value for the health is in the millions. And I have three hearts in the game. I assumed that it was some weird way of displaying the value so I tried to adjust that value after adding it to the lower portion of cheat engine. Whether I have it frozen or unfrozen when I double click to change the value of the number that's in the millions, it just bounces right back to the old value right away. No tutorial videos I watched dealt with this kind of problem so I don't know how to fix it.

Problem 2: On a different game I wanted unlimited fuel for a lantern. I went through the steps to find the undefined value and get it down to a couple of thousand. I unpaused the game and let the meter run down a little bit more so it visually changes on the screen and do a decreased search and then it goes to zero results. I know the fuel decreased in game but I don't know why it goes from thousands of results to zero in a couple of in game seconds.

Any help for these two problems would be really appreciated. Thank you!

problem 1, see what writes to the address.
problem 2, goto settings - scan settings - make sure you have 4byte, float and double checked.
also create a new folder in ce directory call it 'temp' and let ce use this folder for scan results.

1. Sounds like the typical "display" value. "Backtracking" the code is certainly one way to deal with that.
2. Maybe it doesn't count down, maybe it counts up from 0 to some limit. Though it's certainly possible that you only scanned for 4 bytes and it's actually float and the way it changes makes decreased scans not work for it as you'd expect (because 4 byte and float values are not stored in the same way). Though I suppose it could be something related to the scan directory it's not the first thing I'd think of

There's other possibilities for either case (simple anti-cheat, wrong value type, incorrect assumptions on how it changes etc.)
