me?
Where should I post then?
Thank you point the way.
anyway, I removed the dropbox link just in case. |
What i'm saying is that this whole post you did don't sound like anything related... you totally came in randomly posting this.
hence why I said "I think you posted that in the wrong area". Thinking that you should of posted this on a different topic. |
I see, but I'm not agree with you.
The post may seen as a follow up of predprey's idea.
Download *.ct from CE itself should fit the title "Future table downloads/trainer links" legitimately.

I'm not even sure anything needs to be locked off or changed.
After looking around I agree with Mr.AntiFun
mrantifun(dot)net/index.php?threads/cheat-engine-is-under-attack-by-copyright-infringement.12515/
There is no actual threat and it is probably just some a-hole who is in it for lulz and maybe profit.

DB, somebody trolled you:
1) For breaching the ToS you can't be sued, because you haven't broken any law, but you can be banned in the game itself.
2) For cheating, even in multiplayer game, i.e. changing client-side stored information, which server accepts as is - also not punishable by law, because you've changed information that was at your PC. Well, I'm pretty sure you will be banned for it in the game though.
3) For hacking, in multiplayer game, i.e. hacking into the server and changing data to get advantage, you can be easily punished by law. Hacking, regardless of what target is (CoD's server or Pentagon's pron Database) - is against the law, because data you're changing is deployed on the server side.
All cases where server completely trusts client's data (and thus just copies/accepts it back and forth) - is problem of the developer. Basically cheating will get you banned in game for breaking in ToS. Hacking will get you in jail.
And all of us - are community of cheaters, not hackers. Even more, we (well, most of us) cheat only in singleplayer games. So all these "laws" are smoke and mirrors.

I'd recommend avoiding Github at all costs to host anything as they are more interested in their own profit than their users. If you have a repo with even 1 single file that has any type of DMCA claim made against it, they will lock/delete your entire repo without warning. They are not at all friendly (staff and support) and honestly have no care for your time and work put into what you host in their site.
It can also be extremely easily trolled if you want to have some type of collaboration repo where tables are pull requested into a central repository. All it would take is 1 person to add something to a table to have the entire repo put into jeopardy.
At most, the best bet would be for people to just start handling things off-site, using upload sites like Mega or personal sites.
However, like others have mentioned it just sounds like you are being trolled. For a DMCA/copyright claim to follow a DDoS attack that sounds extremely planned by a set of people that are against the forum or are intentionally attacking it trying to gain traffic for their own site of a similar purpose. You should do a bit of digging and reach out to said company(s) that made the claims and validate they are even true before stripping this out of the site entirely.

What atom0s wrote is the most logical explanation so far.

DB confirmed they did indeed send it - http://forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?p=5719565#5719565

Thats a bad joke.
Indeed they would say "Nice, that you cooperate with us.", but theesa as a legal company/association will NEVER use ddos-attacks, which are against law (afaik) to enforce their (maybe) legal claims. They have to use legal ways.

I have worked fraud for many years Mr. Dark Byte. You are getting played. Don't let these little terrorist's get to you my friend. You have created something that everyone enjoys. You should be very proud of yourself. Do your homework and get CE going strong again.

Do you guys even know what you're talking about or just speak whatever you think makes you look cool?.
Sending an email with fake From field is not anything new or surprising, outlook allows you to do that, a simple php script can do that. Catching an emailing coming to some domain by ANYONE would be magic. If you're claiming magic, please respond back from @deviatted.com domain and do back and forth correspondence with me using @devt emails. Better yet, please catch what emails come to @google employees
I understand you didn't read anything posted and just acted like a smartass but come on, DB isn't new to computers or me or anyone else. We know how to confirm an email.
In case anyone else can't read either

I hope there can be actual intelligent solutions now instead of questioning the emails. This and the other thread still seem to be questioning the validity of emails for days now.
You must now understand how stupid it all feels, right?
It will probably be helpful to DB if we can suggest some solutions etc

we have been given so little info that we can only speculate and i'm very skeptical of any power behind those emails.

Based on what DB has said, that already sounds fake. DMCA take-downs require the submitter to include the name(s) of what is being infringed as well as links to the original and links to the infringed material on the target site(s).
Given that he said none of that was included and that 'they' have not said what was being infringed on, it sounds fake.
A company cannot target your entire site like this in a DMCA notice, it is not allowed and is not the purpose of a DMCA.
